What do tattoos mean to you?
Michelle Lee
“Some people find tattoos as something “bad” and conceive them with a negative connotation. However, I see it as a means to express oneself’s identity, not as something done purely for the looks. A tattoo becomes a part of my body now, and I see it as a part of my body rather than merely a tattoo.”

“I’ve always been captured by how beautiful tattoos are and the idea behind wearing a piece of art on my skin for the rest of my life. I have a few tattoos that hold meaning, like my dad’s birth year or my childhood dogs names. Aside from those, rather than collecting work with deep meaning behind them I like getting pieces of pre-drawn flash from artists, or giving an idea and letting the artist put together something so I’m wearing other peoples art to showcase. My favorite style of tattoo and what most of mine are is American traditional. The classic bold lines and typically vibrant colors (though mine are all black and grey). Upon graduation I’m beginning to apprentice at a tattoo shop and eventually become a tattoo artist myself, and American traditional is a style I hope to work most in. I’ve met the most amazing people in this industry. Most of my work is done by Alex Finnerty from Round Table Tattoo in Reading Massachusetts. The owner, Brian, is the most down to earth and talented artist. Finding good artists that you trust and vibe with is really important.”

“My tattoos are a collection of flowers, animals, and women (all the best things in nature). I love them because they show some of my inside on the outside, and that sometimes makes people approach me and want to talk. I get to meet cool people because of this. I’m excited to keep going through life with my tattoos, and seeing where they take me.”

“I have 16 tattoos, from a close friend and roommate of mine. Some carry specific memories and some are show and tell.
My first tattoo was just a cherub that my buddy had. I wanted my first tattoo to be a cliche and get it as a laughable cute bit. My favorite tattoo is the magic tree house on my left bicep. My dad read to us the magic tree house growing up, there’s nothing more kid like than story time. And it’s overall nice line work. Coolest one is my left shoulder, it’s my western area. Dedicated for my job and all that it’s done for me.”
